Keyboard shortcuts for Gmail

https://support.google.com/mail/answer/6594?sjid=3871484880356791029-NC

I've been using gmail since something like 2006, but it never occurred to me to see if they have keyboard shortcuts or learn how to use them.

As a big-time vim user and fan of tools like vimium, I figure it is long overdue that I fix that. Note: if you want to try these, make sure you have Keyboard Shortcuts enabled from Gmail Settings.

Here are the shortcuts that I'm finding most useful at this point for how I use gmail today:

  • ? to open a popover display of all shortcuts
  • j and k to move down and up the threadlist of emails in my inbox
  • e to archive the focused message
  • # to delete the focused message
  • z to undo the last action (e.g. whoops, didn't mean to delete that message)

Some ones that I'm not using yet, but seem worth building some muscle memory around:

  • shift+t to make a task list item from the current message/conversation
  • cmd+opt+, to send focus back to the inbox
  • b to snooze a conversation
