I was at Warehouse Liquors in downtown Chicago a couple months ago. Talking to one of the employees about Cynar, they mentioned they used to bartend and one of their favorite things to make with it is a drink called Artichoke Hold.

They gave me the following recipe which varies a little from the Diffords one.

• 5 drops saline
• 0.5oz orgeat
• 0.75oz Lime juice (not lemon like diffords)
• 0.5oz Elderflower liqueur
• 0.75oz Cynar
• 0.75oz Smith & Cross (one of my favorite rums)

Shake with ice, pour over fresh pebble ice in a Mai Tai glass, garnish with a mint sprig.
