I tried to get Claude Code to chill with the excessive and ephemeral code comments it was leaving all over the place during a feature build. I attempted this with a bit of text in CLAUDE.md on Code Comment Conventions. It is not having enough of an impact.

What I've been experimenting with this week that seems much more effective is a separate pass when it is done with this prompt:

I've been getting way too chatty in the code comments and sometimes write comments that aren't going to help someone in the future or get too in the weeds on details that won't have long-term durability. Can you do a pass to reduce or remove any unnecessary comments added by this branch?

Sometimes I even hand this to a separate model via Codex to mix things up.
